The Sphere formed in Turin, Italy during the mid-1980s, a period when the country’s underground music scene was bursting with post-punk, new wave, and politically charged alternative sounds.
Comprised of Gianni Nucera, Marco Bosonetto, Marco Marazzato, and Umberto Rivolin, the group embraced the raw energy of punk while weaving in moody textures and a distinctly Italian sense of expression.
Working alongside independent networks such as the Blu Bus collective, The Sphere operated firmly within the DIY tradition: recording, performing, and circulating their music outside of mainstream channels. Their 1987 release Dalla Nostra Parte captured both the urgency and experimentation of the era, standing as a testament to the vitality of Turin’s alternative underground. Though their time as an active group was brief, The Sphere remains a significant name within Italy’s post-punk history, representing a generation that challenged conventions and forged its own independent path.
Released in 1987 on Turin’s independent Blu Bus label, Dalla Nostra Parte captures the raw energy and urgency of Italy’s post-punk underground. Long considered lost, the album survived only on a single tape still in good condition, which was uncovered decades later. Vacant Tapes carefully restored and digitally remastered this source, presenting the album in its clearest and most powerful form to date.
